Creating Positive Lifestyles for

NABVETS NATIONAL COMMANDER

Commander Gwendolyn Worthy, M.S., a proud USAF veteran and NABVETS Lifetime member, embodies the vision and mission of the National Association for Black Veterans (NABVETS).

Her journey from Noncommissioned Officer to National Commander is a testament to her  unwavering commitment to justice, unity, and service.  Her military career as an engineering assistant stationed at Robins AB, Georgia, and Hahn AB, Germany, laid the foundation for a lifetime of dedication to serving others. After her honorable service in the Air Force, she continued her commitment to public service through a long career with the United States Government, focusing on operations that ensured the efficient functioning
of vital infrastructure.

Commander Worthy’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Organization Management and Leadership from Warner Pacific University. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Business Administration in Organization Management and Leadership from National University in San Diego, CA. Her academic achievements reflect her dedication to personal growth and her commitment to leading NABVETS with strategic vision and effective management.

In her role as National Commander, elected in August 2022, Commander Worthy became the first female to hold this prestigious position. Her leadership is characterized by a deep commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of Black veterans. She emphasizes unity within NABVETS' regions and chapters, fostering collaboration and mutual support to amplify the organization's impact.

Commander Worthy is also a passionate volunteer, serving in various capacities to promote cultural diversity, inclusivity, and community engagement. She is an active member of West Valley Church in Hillsboro, OR, and held Executive Board positions on Saving Grace Maternity Home and PassinArt Theater Company. Her volunteerism underscores her dedication to creating inclusive communities that support and uplift everyone.

A breast cancer survivor, Commander Worthy draws on her personal experiences to inspire resilience and strength in others. Her vision for NABVETS is one of justice, unity, and continuous service to the veteran community. She encourages all members to engage fully with the organization, participate in activities, and contribute to a shared mission of advocacy and support.

Commander Worthy’s leadership is not just about her professional achievements but about her steadfast commitment to the values and goals of NABVETS. Her journey is a beacon of hope and inspiration, guiding NABVETS towards a future where every veteran’s voice is heard, and every need is met.
